El Auditorio de Galicia acoge, en la sala Isaac Díaz Pardo, una exposición con un retratos fotográficos de mujeres de todo el siglo XX. Hasta el 2 de agosto podremos contemplar el certero disparo de artistas de la talla de Man Ray, Cartier Bresson o Cecil Beaton, Helmut Newton, Rodchenko, Man Ray, Bill Brandt o Doisneau. Una reflexión por hombres, y también mujeres (casi 20 artistas son fotógrafas) de la imagen femenina de los últimos años. Desde una de las primeras fotografías de Edward Steichen a Michael Comte, Marilyn Monroe en el abismo, (Bern Stern la fotografiaba por última vez unos días antes de su muerte), la hipnótica Dietrich, la ambigua Garbo, o la exótica Daryl Hannah con elefante incluido...

Mitos, pero también mujeres anónimas perfilan la selección.Grandes nombres de la fotografía artística del XX y retratos de álbum de familia, que reflejan la intrahistoria femenina. Desde la mujer de la gran depresión vista por Dorothea Lange a la Diva de la moda del mayor genio: Irving Penn. Estética, transformación y actitudes, de mujeres, por hombres, para mujeres por mujeres, para hombres.

“Women in Plural. Women through the lens of the greatest photographers of the XXI Century”

The Galician Auditorium holds, in the Isaac Diaz Pardo room, an exhibition with portraits of women across the XX Century. Until the second of August we will be able to admire the works of artists such as Man Ray, Cartier Bresson o Cecil Beaton, Helmut Newton, Rodchenko, Man Ray, Bill Brandt or Doisneau. A reflection made by men, and also women, (there are almost 20 female artists) about the female image of the past years. From one of the oldest pictures of Edward Steichen to Michael Comte, Marilyn Monroe in the abyss (Bern Stern took pictures from her just a few days before her death), the hypnotic Dietrich, the ambiguous Garbo, or the exotic Daryl Hannah –elephant included-. Myths, but also anonymous women are present in the selection. The greatest artists of the XX Century and portraits of family albums that show the female inner-history. You will find samples of the woman of the great depression, pictured by Dorothea Lange, to the fashion Diva of the biggest genius, Irving Penn. Aesthetics, transformation and attitude of women by men, to women from women to men.

AMBOA

Que no te confunda el nombre con visos de nostalgia celta. Los objetos de Amboa huyen de la artesanía tradicional para erigirse triunfantes enarbolando un cierto minimalismo enxebre. Es decir, partiendo del triunvirato compostelano por excelencia: léase, plata, azabache y cerámica, sus tiendas de souvenirs ofrecen elementos decorativos y joyas pensadas para turistas con tendencias modernillas. La plata se mezcla con los esmaltes de colores, el azabache sigue verticalismos y huye de molduras y filigranas y la cerámica jalona marcos y crea meigas estilizadas y jóvenes o se mezcla en lámparas de mesa. Hay mucho para elegir, tanto en variedad como en ubicación, otra vez se presenta la trinidad en forma de tiendas. Una en la rúa nova, otra, la más concurrida al lado de la plaza del Obradoiro y la representación en el centro comercial de Área Central, en Fontiñas, cada una con su propia oferta.

AMBOA

Don’t get confused by the name, that seem to bare some Celtic nostalgia. The objects that Amboa offer are far from the traditional handcraft and boast, lets say, some sort of traditional minimalism. From the three most typical materials in the history of Santiago handcraft, that is, silver, jet and pottery. Amboa shops have souvenirs, decorative objects and jewellery specially made for tourists that like a modern touch.

Silver gets mixed with coloured enamel, jet follows vertical shapes and rejects intricate mouldings and pottery adorns frames and create stylized young Galician witches, or gives shape to table bed lamps. There’s a lot to choose, in variety of items and in variety of location, again, three is the lucky number. One for each shops: one in the Rúa Nova, another in the Shopping Mall Área Central, and last but not least, the ‘flagship store’, beside the Obradoiro Square, each one of them with their own special selection.

CON ENCANTO. Origen del nombre del Hotel Araguaney

 ¿La palabra Araguaney tiene significado tanto en árabe como en castellano?

Hace 25 años, buscando nombre para su nuevo hotel, uno de los primeros hoteles de 5 estrellas de Galicia. Requina, la mujer de Ghaleb Jaber cogió un libro de Fauna y Flora de Venezuela, su país natal, y lo abrió al azar. El Araguaney, un precioso árbol con flores de intenso tono amarillo se mostró ante ellos, no buscaron más.

Era un nombre difícil de leer, pero fue justamente esa dificultad la que suscitó mayor interés entre los gallegos, que querían aprender y conocer más sobre la aportación de la familia del empresario al léxico gallego y español.

A los 5 o 6 años de andadura, recaló en el hotel el Arzobispo de Jerusalén, Hilario Capucci. Éste destacó el origen árabe del nombre del hotel recordando poemas de los siglos XII y XIII donde poetas ensalzaban el color Araguaney ‘aryuani’ de la casa de su amada, o de su vestido; un amarillo muy vivo y bello. Sin habérselo propuesto, habían creado un nexo de unión entre los diferentes pueblos mediante una palabra que personificaba el amor, la belleza y la pasión. Mismos valores que rigen la hospitalidad en este establecimiento, hoy.

 

CHARMING. Araguaney Hotel. The origin of the name.

The word “araguaney” has a meaning in Arab and in Spanish.

25 years ago, when they were looking for a name for their new hotel, one of the first Five Star Hotels in Galicia, -Requina-, Ghaleb Jaber´s wife picked up a book on Flora and Fauna from Venezuela, her native country and opened it at random. The Araguaney, a beautiful tree with intense yellow flowers showed up before her. They did not search any more.

 It was not an easily readable name, but that difficulty roused even more interest among the Galician, who wanted to learn and know more about the contribution of the businessman´s family to Galician and Spanish lexicons.   

Five or six years after its inauguration, Hilario Capucci, the Archbishop of Jerusalem was at the place. He emphasized the Arab origin of the name and reminded poems from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries in which poets praised the Araguaney colour: “aryuani” of their lover´s houses or dresses, a very bright and beautiful yellow. Unintentionally, they had created a link between the two different people, by means of a word that personified love, beauty and passion. The same values ruling the hospitality of the establishment today.

Sentimos repetirnos, pero es muy difícil recomendar souvenirs imperecederos cuando se tiene una gastronomía como la nuestra. Este mes os recomendamos que llevéis un buen bote de miel gallega de vuelta a vuestras casas.  Muchas son las razones que hacen de la miel gallega un producto especial, se practica una apicultura tradicional y artesana, contamos con una climatología idónea que favorece la producción de esta miel tan especial. También la variada vegetación y las características del campo gallego, que ofrecen infinidad de variantes, miel de brezo, de eucalipto, milflores… todo esto da como resultado una miel con cuerpo y aroma intenso, más oscura que en otras zonas productoras españolas y con un contenido mineral más alto, totalmente natural y exquisita. Para comprar una auténticamente artesana ve al mercado de Abastos, y compra la que venga envasada en el bote más sencillo y humilde, para asegurarte su recolección artesana, probablemente por la propia vendedora, de sus colmenas.

SOUVENIR - HONEY

We do not like repeating ourselves, but having such a good gastronomy as ours it is not easy to recommend immortal souvenirs. This month we advise you to take home a good jar of Galician honey. It is a very special product for many reasons. Traditional and artisan apiculture is practised here as our climate is suitable for the production of such a special honey.

Besides, the varied vegetation and the characteristics of the Galician field offer many variants like heather honey, eucalyptus, milflores… the result of all this is a full-bodied and scented honey, darker than in other Spanish areas and of a higher mineral content, absolutely natural and exquisite. You can buy really artisan honey at the Mercado de Abastos and surely the most humbly and simply bottled has been produced at home, probably by the very seller and from her own beehives.
