Adivinanza: ¿Qué tenemos en común los gallegos, los orientales y Chanel?
“La flor más hermosa que hay bajo los cielos” según los gustos de la dinastía Ming, los de Coco y los nuestros propios. Y es justamente en invierno cuando esta flor adquiere la belleza en su máxima expresión, entre el frío y las heladas del amanecer.
Galicia, por sus condiciones climatológicas, es uno de los lugares donde más y mejor se pueden apreciar las camelias -las naturales no los broches de la casa francesa- y el pazo de Oca, en el municipio de A Estrada, alberga de los ejemplos más espectaculares. Dirección Lalín, por la carretera N-525, a unos 25 Km, se encuentra la salida de este pazo. Un conjunto de gran monumentalidad arquitectónica cuyo origen se remonta al siglo XIII cuando fue creado como fortaleza, aunque su apogeo arquitectónico no tiene lugar hasta los siglos XVII y XVIII. Desde entonces, se ha convertido en uno de los más bellos pazos gallegos. Pero no es su majestuosa iglesia barroca de medidas perfectas, construida en un elegante edificio palaciego, ni su señorial edificio principal, ni siquiera su magnífico hórreo lo que hacen de este lugar un reducto de belleza sin igual. Sino su jardín casi mágico, que parece estar habitado por ninfas, hadas y toda clase de seres mitológicos, y por supuesto, sus camelias, que atraen a cientos de visitantes todos los inviernos; un espectáculo inefable. Algunas de ellas, como la gran Camellia japonica bicolor, son dignos ejemplares de museo
El agua es el elemento que amalgama el halo irreal de este paisaje. Agua provenienente de dos arroyos que corren por la finca en canales y que junto con la flor y la piedra hacen de este paisaje invernal un paraíso cercano y un maravilloso espectáculo.

Guess what people from Galicia, eastern people and Chanel have in common? “The most beautiful flower under the skies” according to the Ming dynasty tastes, but also the Galician and Coco Chanel preferences. Now in winter is the moment when this flower shows at its best, in the cold and the dawn frost. Galicia, due to its weather conditions, is one of the places where you will find the most and best samples of Camellias -the natural ones, not the emblem of the French maison- and The Pazo de Oca, in the municipality of A Estrada, is one of the most spectacular places to find them. You can get there by driving through the Lalín’s road, the N-525, and, at about 25 km there is the exit to the Pazo de Oca, a grand monumental architectonical complex. First built in the XII Century, its peak however is not reached until the VII and XVIII Centuries, when it really became one of the most beautiful pazos in Galicia. However, it is not its magnificent baroque church, neither its elegant main building, not even the horreo of the place, which is an absolute relic, what makes of this setting an almost divine place. It is all about its garden, that seems to be enchanted with magical spirits as nymphs, fairies, and every other sort of mythological creatures and, of course, its camellias, that gather hundreds of visitors each winter, an unspeakable experience. Some of them, like the great bicolor Camellia japonica, are museum-worth pieces.
Water is the bonding element on the otherworldly halo of the landscape. With two streams that run through the estate in channels, and, with the flowers and the stone, make of this garden a breathtaking landscape: when Camellias’ petals cover the paths and the fog mysteriously envelops the place. An astounding experience.
