Si has decidido regalar o regalarte uno de los manjares más característicos de Compostela y te quieres asegurar de que sea una tarta artesana-las de dos por seis Euros de las tiendas del Franco hacen sospechar- acércate al Monasterio de San Paio de Antealtares donde las dulces monjas Benedictinas elaboran a diario aún más dulce repostería. Además de una exquisita tarta de Santiago (la ‘auténtica’ receta que ha ido pasando de generación en generación, con mucha almendra y productos 100 por cien artesanales) elaboran almendrados, pastas de té, magdalenas, galletas y, por encargo, deliciosos brazos de gitano, bizcochos, tartas de moca, de chocolate y nata... ve temprano ya que preparan sus manjares a diario y suelen acabarse las existencias muy pronto. Ve temprano aunque sólo sea por el momento en que se abre el torno por el que venden sus productos y un delicioso aroma a repostería casera recién hecha inunda hasta lo más profundo de tu pituitaria, pura aromaterapia…y qué mejor manera de empezar el día. Cierran a las 7 de la tarde.

SANTIAGO'S CAKE.

Whether you have decided to take this delight back with you as souvenir and want to make sure that it is a natural home-made one -the shops that sell you 2 for 6 € in the Rúa del Franco make me doubt- pop by the Benedictine convent of San Paio de Antealtares. There, lovely nuns elaborate everyday a luscious one (the one and only recipe that has over generations -really made with almonds and nothing but- and other 100% organic ingredients). You can also go for exquisite traditional almond biscuits, tea cakes, muffins. They also make to order, rich luxurious cakes, pies and traditional cream roll cakes. You want to get early there; they run out of supplies in short time because they bake their treats everyday. You want to get there early even if it’s only to enjoy the delicious smell of home-made baking that comes out from their kitchen in the mornings; genuine aromatherapy…I cannot think of a better way to begin the day with. They close at 7 pm.
