ENCAJE DE CAMARIÑAS.

Resulta que el encaje se eleva a los altares de las perchas más exquisitas esta temporada, qué mejor momento para llevarte como souvenir de nuestras tierras un producto tan gallego como el encaje de Camariñas. Tu amiga fashion-victim o tu hija 'vogue-dixit' quedarán encantadas, no sera una falda de guipur de Prada...pero tampoco rondará peligrosamente los 2.000 Euros...

Ya en el S. XVI hay documentos que atestiguan la existencia de este laborioso arte que, probablemente inspirado en los encajes que llevaban los barcos italianos y de Flandes, ha pasado de generación en generación desde entonces .

Especialmente prolífico en la Costa da Morte -de ahí su nombre- se elaboran en toda Galicia. Las palilleras, artesanas del encaje, confeccionan con altas dosis de destreza y paciencia todo tipo de diseños y piezas con este material.

En Santiago, Dosel es una de esas tiendas de la rúa nova que se encarga de que este tejido vaya más allá del mantelito que se pone encima de la televisión -que los delicados pies de la sevillana o el torito no pasen frío entre tanta onda catódica-; encajes, bordados en sedas, linos, tules o batistas. Y lo hacen 'made to order' personalizando todo lo imaginable en lencería para bebé y hogar, siguiendo las técnicas milenarias propias de la artesanía gallega. Realmente impresiona ver esos cientos de palillos con sus respectivos hilos bailando entre los dedos expertos.

CAMARIÑAS LACE

Lace happens to be the 'it' fabric of the most exquisite couturiers this season; what better moment to buy as souvenir from our land a typically Galician handcraft: the Camariñas lace. Your fashion-victim friend or your 'vogue-dixit' daughter will be delighted; it might not be a Prada guipur skirt...but it wont dangerously cost around 2.000 Euros either...

Already in XVI Century there are documents that report on the existence of this exquisite art that had been probably inspired in the lace Italian and Flanders ships carried. Since then, it has passed from one generation to another.

Especially prolific in the Costa da Morte -where the region of Camariñas is- they are however elaborated all over Galicia. The ‘palilleiras’ are the artists on Camariñas lace craft. They elaborate with same doses of patience and skillfulness every kind of patterns and items of this intricate art.

Here in Santiago, Dosel is one of those shops set in the Rúa Nova, that work with this fabric and give another dimension to the uses of lace (usually reserved for the little cloths that were put on top of the televisions; maybe to avoid the “sevillana” or the “torito's” feet to be cold). Lace, embroidery in silk, linen, tulles or cambric 'made to order'. Everything imaginable in baby and home lingerie, personalized, yet according to millenarian techniques of Galician art craft. You will probably not have time to learn the technique, unless you plan to stay for months here, but if you want to poke around how they are done, which is an absolute spectacle, pop by Bolillos shop, at the beginning of the Rúa Nova, where they also give courses for those who want to learn more about the craftwork. Impressive how the hundreds of sticks with the corresponding threads dance between the expert fingers.
