Hay gran cantidad de talleres de este material con piezas de buena relación calidad-precio, nosotros te recomendamos el Museo del Azabache, porque no sólo te ofrece las piezas más características a buenos precios, sino que también posee una colección de más de trescientos ejemplares que recorren la historia del azabache en Compostela-impresionante una talla de Santa Ana de casi 30 cm., de los siglos XVI-XVII, hecha con una sola pieza de azabache-. Conocerás gran cantidad de información sobre esta gema, que no es otra cosa que madera fosilizada de árboles jurásicos; como por ejemplo que las figuras de azabache más representativas son la vieira, que ya se llevaban como recuerdo aquellos primeros peregrinos, y la ‘figa’ figura de un puño cerrado que protege contra el mal de ojo, ya que al azabache se le confieren propiedades mágicas y curativas desde tiempos de Plinio, y ya se sabe que en Galicia las meigas ‘haberlas hailas’.

The magical gem of Santiago, of intense blackness and silky-smooth surface has been admired since ancient times. There is a great amount of good quality low-price shops all along the old town; however, we recommend you the Jet Museum because it also gives you the opportunity of admiring its collection of more than three hundred jet objects that go throughout the history of jet in Compostela-amazing sculpture of 30 cm. height of Saint Anne, made of one single piece of jet between the XVI-XVII centuries-. You will learn all you need to know about this gem, that it actually is fossilized wood of jurasic trees. For example that the most representative jet amulets are the scallop shell, which those first pilgrims already got as souvenir, and the ‘figa’ a figure with the shape of a fist that protects against evil eye, for jet is believed to be a magical stone with healing properties since Plinio’s time…as they say in Galicia, ‘I don’t believe in witches even though the do exist’
